Research the Town through its heritage museum
The Crested Butte Museum preserves and shares the history and traditions of Crested Butte and the Gunnison Valley. Its collections and programs offer a primary institutional reference for the town's mining, community, and built-history narratives. That regional mission must not be used to authenticate a private work, imply museum approval, or claim that an offered object has a Crested Butte provenance without supporting records.
Create an object dossier stating maker, title, date, materials, support, dimensions, weight, edition details when relevant, condition, documented ownership history, and cited references. Obtain clear current images of the front, back, margins, labels, signatures, frame joints, and hanging system. If a work is described as connected to mining, skiing, the Gunnison Valley, or a named local person, require evidence proportionate to that specific claim.
