When to Commission
Commission a custom painting when you have a specific space that demands specific dimensions, when your color palette requires a precise match, or when none of the existing collection pieces quite capture what you are looking for. A commission gives you creative input in the process while relying on the artist's skill to execute a work that exceeds what you could have imagined on your own.
The Conversation
Every commission begins with a conversation. You share photos of your space, your preferred color palette, the mood you want to create, and the dimensions your wall requires. You might reference existing paintings from our collection that capture elements of what you want — "the texture of Bipolar but the colors of Maui" is a perfectly valid starting point.
Concept Development
Based on your brief, the artist develops a concept — a color study and compositional sketch that shows the direction the painting will take. This is your opportunity to provide feedback before the full-scale work begins. Adjustments to palette, composition, or emphasis are straightforward at this stage and become difficult once painting is underway.
Creation and Progress Updates
The painting is created over 4-8 weeks, with progress photos shared at key milestones: initial layers, mid-process texture buildup, and near-completion detail. You can provide feedback throughout, though significant direction changes mid-process may affect the timeline.
Delivery and Documentation
The completed painting is professionally crated, fully insured, and shipped with a signed certificate of authenticity. Custom commissions are priced based on size and complexity, starting at our standard collection price points ($999-$3,499). Very large or unusually complex works may be quoted higher.
