Context from the museum

Maria von Freyberg was in the court of Albert V, Duke of Bavaria. However, as Lutherans, the family eventually fell from favor as Catholic political interests consolidated power in Bavaria. Mielich’s work for the Munich court included illustrating an inventory of the duchess’s jewelry, seen in the meticulous attention here to the sitter’s brooches, necklaces, and rings. The diamond and ruby ring on her left index finger would have slid apart to reveal a private message or image underneath the gems.

Read the dimensions before the image

The selected unframed measurement for Portrait of Maria Kitscher, Frau von Freyberg is 46 cm wide and 61.4 cm high, equivalent to approximately 18.1 × 24.2 inches. Dividing width by height gives a format ratio of 0.75:1. The rectangular bounding area is 0.28 square meters; it describes the measured footprint, not the amount of paint or the monetary value.

On an illustrative 300 cm wall, the recorded width occupies 15.3% of the span before adding a frame. A centered placement leaves approximately 127.0 cm on each side before adding a frame. These are calculations by Physical Art For Crypto using museum measurements. They are not the museum’s display recommendations.
