Respect archaeological custody in a Paphos provenance review
The district museum's official page traces its display from Epipalaeolithic and Neolithic material through Bronze Age, Hellenistic, and Roman finds, including pottery, metalwork, wall painting, and inscriptions from identified excavations. Those findspots and institutional records are integral to their meaning and custody. A Paphos origin story, ancient appearance, or visual comparison cannot establish lawful private ownership, authenticity, exportability, or market value.
For any object with possible archaeological significance, document material, technique, measurements, weight, inscriptions, condition, repairs, discovery or acquisition circumstances, complete ownership sequence, licences, customs papers, and publication references. Preserve original records and avoid cleaning or intervention before advice. Independent archaeologists, cultural-property counsel, the competent authority, conservators, and valuation professionals should address unresolved identity, title, reporting, export, treatment, and valuation questions.
