How to use this research
Treat an auction headline as a prompt to inspect the underlying comparison. Identify the artist, date, medium, dimensions, provenance and condition before comparing prices. Then distinguish the published sale amount from the amount a buyer actually pays. An exceptional historical painting is a poor benchmark for a new studio work even when both share a color palette or subject.
