Ask what the layers actually contain
A photograph may flatten differences between transparent colour, an opaque passage and a raised mark. Request one evenly lit overall view plus details showing the surface. If more than one paint system is used, ask the maker to explain the support and layering. Judge whether the texture remains engaging across the room as well as close up. The most heavily worked area does not necessarily need to be the composition’s focal point.
Fit the painting to a Paramaribo wall or beyond
Describe the destination in Suriname and the proposed wall’s usable width after furniture and fittings are considered. For a richly textured work, ask whether framing would hide important edges or create unwanted shadows. Include the desired hanging orientation and whether installation will be arranged locally. Keep the artwork description, condition images and eventual packing instructions together so that an unfamiliar handler can identify the sensitive parts of the surface.
