UNESCO describes Kovačica’s naïve painting practices as representations of folk life, rural surroundings, history and daily experience, often in brightly coloured oil paint. The tradition developed in the town from the 1930s and spread among Slovak communities in Serbia. That context is more precise than treating naïve painting as a synonym for any picture with simplified perspective or cheerful colours.
Look for the story within the composition
Trace the sequence of actions in a candidate painting. Decide whether the appeal comes from one central event or many small scenes that become visible over time. Request a high-resolution detail of the figures and an overall view that preserves the borders. If a room is already visually active, compare how the painting’s strongest colour interacts with the surroundings before selecting a larger version or a heavier frame.
Document authorship and presentation separately
For a Serbian destination, record the artist’s name as supplied, including diacritics, alongside the exact title and date. Ask whether the picture is oil on canvas, panel or another support; the tradition’s usual medium does not answer for every work. If framing is included, obtain its exterior dimensions and condition. Use the receiving city and address to assess transport, rather than assuming an exhibition venue can receive a private purchase.
