The Biennale de l’Art Africain Contemporain publishes its programme and official calls through its Dakar organization. That primary record is a useful way to distinguish an institutional exhibition from an independent event or a seller’s claim of participation. An artist’s inclusion can provide context for a practice, but it does not establish the authenticity, condition or price of every object offered under that name.
Read a painting beyond the broad category
Ask what the particular work investigates: a material, a place, a personal history or a formal problem. Compare it with documented works from the same period rather than with unrelated pictures grouped by continent. For layered or mixed-media painting, request the materials list and an edge photograph. A brief statement tied to the work is more useful than a biography that leaves the actual surface and date unexplained.
Keep acquisition records together
For an inquiry intended for Dakar or another Senegalese address, record the title, date, medium, dimensions and studio reference for your chosen painting. Keep the eventual invoice, condition photographs and shipping description under that same identifier. If a work is discussed during an exhibition, confirm who has authority to sell it and who will issue the invoice. Establish the intended recipient and presentation before discussing the final transport arrangements.
