The object’s material and function distinguish it from a decorative line drawing. A collector studying its open structure should retain that knowledge rather than treating the chart as a generic geometric pattern detached from Marshallese practice.
Compare negative space as carefully as the marks
For a painting, identify the largest unmarked or quiet area and how the active lines relate to it. Does the composition need a similarly open wall around it? A sparse image can be visually strong when the intervals are deliberate. Ask for the full canvas dimensions and compare it with the furniture beneath.
