The Grenada Tourism Authority identifies works in the underwater sculpture park, including Jason deCaires Taylor’s Vicissitudes. The installation’s relationship to its underwater surroundings is integral to the experience. That makes it a useful counterpoint to an indoor painting: the display environment is a design decision, and one artwork’s suitability for water says nothing about another object’s durability.
Ask what changes as the viewer moves
A sculptural group can be encountered from several positions. For a painting, consider the entrance view, the main seating position and the close-up view. A textured original may reveal different shadows at each point. Send photographs of the room from those positions if the wall is important to the whole space. Decide whether the painting should announce itself immediately or reward a slower approach. Size alone does not determine that effect.
Define indoor display and island delivery separately
For a Grenada property, distinguish an enclosed interior from an exposed terrace or a wall near open weather. Ask whether the selected medium suits the actual location.
