UNESCO’s Asmara record describes twentieth-century planning and modernist buildings developed under Italian colonial occupation, alongside indigenous neighbourhoods. It addresses a city’s layered history as well as its formal design. A collector can study geometry and scale while keeping that context in view. The reference does not make every clean-lined painting an Eritrean work or establish a connection to Asmara’s architects.
Compare horizontal and vertical emphasis
Look at the strongest directional lines in the room: a long window, a low cabinet or a tall doorway. Then compare how the painting’s structure responds. A vertical canvas can interrupt a strongly horizontal setting; a wide composition can reinforce it. Ask for the exact aspect ratio and try both placements with measured outlines before choosing. Texture should support the composition rather than be the only visible feature in a dramatically lit catalogue photograph.
Use the actual property as the installation reference
Not every Eritrean address has a modernist interior. Provide photographs of the specific wall and identify the surface into which fixings would be placed. Ask the property owner or installer to confirm the mounting method. For the proposed shipment, give the complete destination and recipient for route review before payment. Record the frame’s outer dimensions and the package size separately so both the room fit and the transport plan can be assessed.
