Ask which scale the work was designed to inhabit
An image conceived for a wall-sized setting may not read like an easel painting, even if both are shown at the same size online. Ask for the actual dimensions and compare them with the room’s longest viewing distance. For a textured original, inspect whether large forms organise the composition before the eye reaches individual ridges. If training at an academy matters to your purchase, request evidence for the named artist rather than inferring it from a country or city association.
