UNESCO inscribed Dhaka’s rickshaws and rickshaw painting in 2023. Its account describes hand-built vehicles decorated with flowers, animals, stories, public figures and text, with knowledge passed through workshops and practical training. The vehicle carries the picture through the city. That relationship between object, maker and audience is specific; it should not become a generic label attached to every brightly coloured painting from Bangladesh.
Distinguish a lively palette from a crowded composition
For a wall painting, the viewer may spend much longer with the same image than someone watching a vehicle pass. Compare the overall organisation before looking at individual details. Identify which colour leads, where the eye pauses and whether small marks remain enjoyable at everyday viewing distance. If your interest is in commissioned narrative painting, write down the subject and ask the maker how they interpret it. If you prefer an existing abstract original, evaluate its own composition without promising that the artist can reproduce another tradition.
Check what the paint is attached to
Painted metal, a wooden panel, stretched canvas and a printed image are different objects even when their online photographs look similar. Ask for the reverse, edge and medium before agreeing the price. For a destination in Bangladesh, specify whether the final location is the same as the carrier’s delivery point and identify the person handling the arrival. Request an itemised packing and freight estimate for the actual support. Decorative vehicle paint should not be used as evidence that an unrelated indoor canvas can withstand rain or outdoor display.
